This Salsa Maker Rocks!!!!!! March 21, 2010 krazy in kalifornia (El Cajon, CA) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
My husband and I are well known for our salsas. We have been making them for about 15 years and give them as gifts in addition to enjoying them ourselves on a regular basis. We started with a salsa maker just like this one that we had purchased from a fairgrounds pitch person. It worked great but the because the gears are plastic and we tended to "overstuff" the salsa maker, it quickly stripped the gears and we bought two more so that we would never be without a salsa maker if one of them failed. Over the last 15 years, we have owned 7-8 salsa makers. We even purchased a blender with a salsa setting on it but the blender just turned the tomatoes into mush instead of chopping them. In 2003, we purchased the Starfrit name brand. The cost was about $8 more than we had spent previously, but it was well worth the money. We make salsa in it at least twice a month. The salsa maker we purchased in 2003 is now 6.5 years old and still going strong. The Starfrit namebrand is far superior to any other salsa maker we have purchased in the past and we highly recommend it. The proper way to make salsa is to add the onion, garlic, and peppers and chop them first. Then add tomatoes, cilantro, lime juice, salt and pepper and chop them to the desired consistency. This is a great salsa maker and we highly recommend it!!!
Works great as a chopper! January 21, 2010 Melanie Walther (Portland, OR USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was given the Starfrit Manual Food Processor as a gift from a friend. I use it all the time for chopping foods such as onions, tomatoes, celery, jalepenos, (anything for salsa) etc. It works great for chopping these items, does it in a quick efficient manner, and you avoid the tears from the onions since they are contained while chopping. It makes prepping for meals much quicker. Clean up is a breeze, the Starfrit comes apart completely and is easy to hand wash. I purchased this item to give to multiple family members as gifts. They love it as well. Worked great for preparing ingredients for stuffing over Thanksgiving!
Purchased as a gift. July 1, 2009 J. Welge 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Bought this for a friend b/c I have one very similar. She has never complained about it and she would tell me if I bought her a piece of crap.
I love mine. Great for a chopping almost anything. I especially love it for onions!!!!! The only thing I wont use if for is tomatoes b/c I do not like when the they get all smooshed and air bubbly, but thats just me being extra picky. Much easier to use and clean that a electric food processor and actually control the size of your chopped items.
What a joke! April 19, 2009 S.R. Shoress (Portland, OR) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
When I decided to purchase this product, there were only two reviews and both were all right, so I thought I would give it a try. I was specifically looking for something to chop organic matter just a little bit smaller before it went out into the compost bucket on my back porch. In other words, I was not looking for food to be cut very small or uniformly and this processor still doesn't perform-- even after I do most of the chopping for it first. Instead of real chopping blades, it simply has two razor blades. They don't cut much, but after just a few spins they invariably get stuck on something really tough. You know. Like a leaf of spinach or piece of pear. The manufacturers should have just saved the plastic and left the nonskid ring off the bottom; it works so poorly for keeping the processor in place, I exert more effort holding it in place than I do turning the handle.
Don't waste the money on this one!
