Good purchase January 6, 2009 A. Shattuck (Newport RI) Really enjoy having a digital timer for a small size slow cooker - only 2 people in family.
Very poor quality January 4, 2009 D. Brown (Boston, MA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Poor quality all around. My first experience was removing the unit from the box - The handles on the sides of the unit are plastic, coated with a metal plating to give them that polished look, almost like a thick layer of metal foil. The foil on one the handles had lifted and shredded somehow so that I was left with a deep cut on reaching in to pick it up. Anxious to give the slow cooker a try while the wound healed, the pot cracked on the first use. As others have noted, this $35 replacement part (almost half the price of the unit) is not covered by warranty. This is my first and last experience with Cuisinart. Garbage.
Quite pleased December 26, 2008 N. Rosen (New York) I have to say I was a little concerned about trying out a 4 quart pot. But, since we generally cook only for the 2 of us it made a lot of sense. So, after reading through the reviews I decided to try out the cuisinart slow cooker and I have to say that I am quite happy. The heat is fairly constant but there is quite a big difference between high and low settings (a medium would be good as opposed to the even lower simmer.) It is easy to clean and to store (especially with the way the electric cord rolls back up. Altogether a nice little package.
Great for boiled food December 8, 2008 J. Kirsch 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Avoid the high setting unless you want boiled food. I made split pea soup and got carrot & pea mush. I had a couple of stalks of celery in there, but they are nowhere to be found now. The carrots have the consistency of paste. I measured the gruel with a Thermapen and sure enough it was 212 degrees. Stay with the low setting, watch it like a hawk, and you'll be fine - but you can do that with a pot on the stove and save yourself $70.00+.
Best Chicken Stock November 23, 2008 CLSR (Kansas, United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is great for a small family. Have made soup, stew, and meatballs, which were really good, but just made chicken stock for Thanksgiving cooking using the recipe in the Cuisinart book. Better than Alton Brown's recipe and not nearly as complicated and time consuming. This is the best slow cooker I have owned. It is worth the money.
