Does a good job. Magnet is not too intense, but holds all sizes of knives well. We use it to dry our knives after hand washing and it has not shown any signs of rust either after 2 years of use. We also use it vertically with no problems.

This is a great item to have in your kitchen. Not only does it save space and keep knives handy and within reach but knives stay sharper longer as they do not touch each other in a drawer.
