5 out of 5 stars Powerful Water Kettle-Very Good, But Beware   January 6, 2009
Rachel P. Smith (Berea, KY)
I purchased this kettle for my boyfriend to take to work to replace
a water kettle he has had for 25 years. It pulled so much power that
it shut several computers down in his work area. He had to bring it
home where we have been useing it with no problems. It does a
fantastic job boiling our tea water. Just make sure you plug it in
somewhere it is not going to throw the breakers.

5 out of 5 stars Great kettle for a larger group   December 22, 2008
Lisianthus (Grand Rapids, MI)
Chef's Choice 678 Cordless Electric Kettle

We have serious tea drinkers in our office, so the tea kettle has to be great. This one is the perfect size for groups. It boils the water very quickly. The only drawback is the gauge for water is located under the handle, making it diffuclt to see how much water is in the pot.

2 out of 5 stars Great for a while   December 2, 2008

I had this product for about 3 weeks and it worked really well for a while; however, it developed a large rust spot on the inside of the pot. It's a pity because I thought I had found the ideal non-plastic electric tea kettle. Back to the drawing board.

1 out of 5 stars A drip off the old block   November 28, 2008
Scorched Mirth (Seattle, WA)
I purchased this kettle based on the strong reviews. It heated water very well for two days, but there appeared to be some condensation around the bottom of the kettle. We soon realized that the kettle was, in fact, leaking at the lower seems.

So I returned the kettle and ordered a replacement. This time, it didn't have a small leak on the seam. It had a very large leak. Water was actually running out of the kettle and dripping on the electric base below. Needless to say, that's not a functional way for a kettle to work.

So this product is 0 for 2. I missed the return window, so I've got a scrap kettle. And I still have to use the stove to make tea. Not recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Great So Far   November 15, 2008
B. Marshall (Los Angeles, CA)
If you have not tried an electric kettle, then I'd urge you to get one. They are a great addition to the kitchen.

This is the second electric kettle that we have owned. The first one was a Cuisinart, which died early. It had a more stylish design, but did not last. We loved having an electric kettle, but we were looking for a more reliable product. We purchased the Chef's Choice based on the Amazon reviews. It has been seven months so far, and we are very happy with this product.

First, it looks great, which is somewhat important as it sits out on your kitchen counter all of the time. It is on the large size, but if you have the counter space then that is an advantage because you can quickly boil a lot of water, if needed. We keep our unit plugged in and ready to go. We use it several times each day. We have not had a problem.

Second, we have not had any of the issues that others complain about (at least not yet). We do not think the unit is unusually loud. In fact, it would be nice to have an option to turn on an alarm so that you know when the water has reached a boil. You can tell if you are in the same room with the kettle, but often I am running around the house trying to do 10 things at once and I forget that I turned the kettle on. It turns off automatically and the water stays good and hot for awhile so this isn't a huge problem. We have not had trouble seeing the water monitor. I glance at the water monitor and when the water appears on the lower side I usually I pick the kettle up to see whether I need or want to add water to it based on whether I am making a cup of tea, a pot of tea, or boiling a bunch of water to add to a pot on the stove. I decide just based on the weight. It holds a lot of water so we are not constantly refilling. We have not had trouble with leaking or pouring. The unit appears to be well made. I did not get the impression that the on/off button was flimsy. Like I said, we use the kettle all of the time and everything works as it should. The unit still looks and performs as it did when it was new.

Bottom line: the unit does what it should do and is reliable and convenient to use.
