Butter bell October 8, 2008 D. Godlove (Cumberland, Md) The clear glass makes the Bell perfect. I've purchased several for Christmas Jingles this year.
Watery Mess September 23, 2008 Susan L. Herz (Fremont, CA) The first time it worked good but now I can't get the butter to stay in the right part of the container. It keeps falling out into the water the minute I lift the butter container part off. The butter falls out, splashing into the water making a mess.
works, but not perfectly August 10, 2008 Amazon fan (Texas) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I live in a hot climate and turn the A/C off when I'm away during the day. While the butter is usually intact, a couple of times I have discovered that a chunk of butter has dropped into the water like Arctic ice. This butter keeper is definitly better than a simple, lidded pyrex bowl, but I agree with the reviewer who says stoneware functions better. There are a few things you can do to improve the performance of this product: 1. thoroughly wash the dish before adding a new stick of butter 2. mash the butter to make it concave 3. fill the base jar with as much water as it will hold when the bell is in place 4. change the water every 2-3 days
Doesn't cool as well as pottery. August 2, 2008 A. Burrell (Puget Sound, WA USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I like the way this keeper looks and my butter has been staying in the compartment well enough. But, after having used it for a few weeks, I think my stoneware bowls (used like a butter keeper) do a better job at keeping butter cool than this does. I'm probably going to get another stoneware/pottery one and save this for cooler temp use.
Works like it's supposed to July 2, 2008 Chris Hann (Alameda, CA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Basically these things are butter dishes that keep the air and bugs off the butter. This is a well built example of the type and allows you to see when the butter is getting low, if you aren't the main user. Best one I looked at and it works.
