They are made of a very strong but yet light weight glass (borosilicate glass). They can safely go in the dishwasher and microwave. No coaster needed. Bodum's insulated glassware is made from durable Borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is a strong heat-resistant glass that weighs less than traditional glassware. Used to make scientific lab glass, borosilicate glass (medical grade glass) is stronger than traditional "soda-lime" glass and can be used for everything from drinkware to cookware. Some people may perceive the glass to be "thin" as they hold it. It is important to understand the difference between borosilicate and soda lime glass. Beautiful, innovative, extremely fragile. Lost the first one 48 hours after opening the package. Borosilicate glass may well be tougher than normal glass, but these are still extremely thin. Our first breakage was from a minor impact too, just slowly tipped it over on the table.

The Bodum concept is fantastic if you live in a warm, humid climate. Great for mint julips, gin tonics, iced tea and anything that sweats in the warm, humid air. Fantastic product!

I discovered Bodum double-wall glasses about 4 years ago and now they are the only glasses I use. I live in Hawaii and it is hard to find glasses that don't "sweat" and get furniture, costers and you wet. These glasses are the answer. They are great for beer but also tea, water and tall mixed drinks. I have also replaced all my wine glasses with the smaller curved glasses( cant remember the name). At present I dont expect to ever buy any other glasses. The are really sturdy and of course dish washer safe. Amazon also offers the best price.

I bought a pair of these because they were the mainstay in my favorite Boston area cafe (the Diesel!) and since relocating to Arizona, hot coffee in clear glasses has been missing from my life. These glasses are beautiful to look at, a pleasure to hold and drink from and insulate you from both cold and hot drinks so you can comfortably lift a hot coffee without getting burned or put a tall cold one on a wooden table without a coaster. Also because of the double walled glass, they look cool - the drink seems to "float" inside the glass. But be careful - they are glass and not plastic so they'll break with an impact on a hard floor, countertop or sink. Its best to wash them by themselves (impacting other dishes or pots will crack them!) And be aware that if you drop one (as I did, tragically) on a hard tile floor, you'll be finding glass in odd places for weeks and weeks!

These are great glasses. The ice in cold drinks last much longer than in a standard glass. This is my second purchase of these. Bought 4 previously as a test and cracked a couple but came back for 8 more! The one caveat is that they are more fragile that standard thicker walled glasses but they're great otherwise. Worth the tradeoff in my opinion. The only thing that would make them better would be if they were unbreakable!
